CHRISTINA V. WHITSON, President of Art Appraisal Services, LLC, is an Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) and member in good standing with the American Society of Appraisers.  She is the Vice-President of the Society's Western North Carolina Chapter, a position held for the past four years. As Chapter VP, Ms. Whitson has instituted a bi-annual two-day seminar, one day of which offers the required review of USPAP (Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice), and the following day offering topics such as "Appraisal Review" (with Roger Durkin) and "What's Fair about Fair Market Value?" (with David Cole).

Continuing education is an important element in any serious appraiser's professional development, and Ms. Whitson regularly attends ASA national conferences in such major cities as New York, Washington DC, San Francisco, San Antonio and Savannah. These conferences expose the appraiser to a multitude of relevant topics and educational forums, cautionary tales, and changes in the law (particularly re the IRS). Introductions to curators, dealers, art lawyers, IRS agents, auction house owners, and experts in many esoteric fields provide an ever-expanding circle of necessary contacts.

Ms. Whitson is an Army brat with four siblings who were reared in Hong Kong and Taiwan. This instilled in her a fascination with other peoples and cultures, which evolved into a B.A. in History from the College of William & Mary. She graduated from the Sotheby's Works of Art Course in London in 1983 and joined C. G. Sloan’s Auction House in Washington DC as a researcher, writer, and antiques/art appraiser from 1983 through 1985, and again from 1991 through 1994.  From 1994 through 1998 she worked as an art consultant for FABREP, a North Carolina firm representing various artists, art publishers, furniture dealers and galleries. She then worked with Laurance Triplette, Inc. on personal property appraisals from 1998 through mid-2006. At that time, Mrs. Triplette moved to Oxford, MS, and Ms. Whitson formed a consortium with her and Jan Milner (of Fine Art Services) under the company name of Fine Art Appraisal Services. When Mr. Milner died in February of 2009, Ms. Whitson created her own appraisal company.
